Our Mission

Lao Green Carbon – Mission & Vision

1. Mission Statement

Lao Green Carbon is dedicated to developing, certifying, and promoting high-integrity carbon and biodiversity projects across the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Our mission is to transform Laos’s natural landscapes — its forests, watersheds, and protected ecosystems — into long-term climate assets that benefit both the environment and local communities.

We work to ensure that the preservation of nature generates tangible economic value, enabling communities, landholders, and conservation organizations to become stewards of climate resilience.

Our core mission:

“Turn conservation into sustainable climate finance for the people and nature of Laos.”

2. Vision

To make Laos a regional leader in Nature-Based Carbon Solutions, recognized internationally for its commitment to forest protection, biodiversity, and social inclusion.

We envision a country where:

Every hectare of forest has measurable carbon and biodiversity value,

Local communities are rewarded for protecting ecosystems,

Conservation projects are financially self-sufficient through transparent carbon finance,

Laos contributes meaningfully to global climate goals under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

3. Strategic Objectives

Objective Description

1. Develop certified carbon projects Identify, design, and register REDD+, reforestation, and ecosystem restoration projects under Verra, Gold Standard, or Plan Vivo.

2. Build partnerships with government and local authorities Work under formal MOUs with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE).

3. Support community-based conservation Ensure that local populations directly benefit from carbon revenues through employment, training, and profit-sharing.

4. Promote international visibility of Lao carbon assets Facilitate the export and sale of verified Lao-origin carbon credits to corporate buyers and voluntary markets abroad.

5. Reinforce biodiversity and climate adaptation Combine carbon finance with measurable improvements in wildlife protection, watershed management, and sustainable land use.

4. Core Values

Integrity: Full transparency in measurement, verification, and revenue distribution.

Sustainability: Long-term ecological and social impact beyond short-term profit.

Partnership: Collaboration between government, private sector, NGOs, and communities.

Innovation: Use of digital MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) tools and blockchain-based traceability.

Equity: Fair benefit-sharing that empowers local stakeholders.

5. Operational Approach

Lao Green Carbon operates as an intermediary and project developer.

Our role is to bridge three key stakeholders:

Stakeholder Our Role

Government Ensure compliance with national carbon regulations and coordinate MOUs/MOAs.

Local Landholders / Projects Provide technical support to design and validate carbon activities.

International Buyers / Investors Offer verified, transparent, and high-quality Lao carbon credits with strong SDG co-benefits.

Each project is developed according to international standards and includes:

Baseline studies and carbon quantification,

Independent third-party validation and verification,

Transparent benefit-sharing agreements with local communities,

Monitoring and annual reporting of environmental and social impacts.

6. Flagship Focus Areas

1. Forest Carbon Projects (REDD+, ARR) – Protection and restoration of degraded forest areas.

2. Agroforestry & Sustainable Agriculture – Climate-smart farming and carbon sequestration in soils.

3. Biodiversity & Conservation Finance – Integration with elephant and wildlife protection initiatives (e.g., Elephant Conservation Center).

4. Blue Carbon & Wetlands – Exploration of mangrove and wetland restoration in southern Laos.

5. Community Climate Programs – Small-scale, high-impact projects empowering rural households.

7. Long-Term Goal

By 2030, Lao Green Carbon aims to:

Protect or restore over 500,000 hectares of forest,

Generate 10 million verified carbon credits

Channel over 50 million USD in carbon revenues to local communities and conservation programs.

🌱 Our ambition is to make carbon finance a cornerstone of Laos’s sustainable development — protecting nature, empowering people, and fighting climate change together.
